Connor Mcdavid: Whatever It Takes
Connor McDavid: Whatever it Takes follows the most physically and emotionally challenging offseason of Connor McDavid’s career. This documentary is the remarkable comeback story of one of the NHL’s best players after what could have been a career ending or altering injury.
Gruvpix played a critical role in the production process and took full responsibility for the post-production of Whatever It Takes. Despite a challenging turnaround of just three months, Gruvpix delivered a polished, high-quality final product. The project premiered on Sportsnet in Canada and aired on NBC during the NHL All-Star weekend in the USA, capturing a wide audience. Whatever It Takes earned numerous award nominations and was met with praise from both fans and critics.
THUNDER: The Life and Death of Arturo Gatti
Many called him a “throwback fighter” or an “old school gladiator”. World Champion Boxer Arturo Gatti’s life was cut tragically short when he was found dead, at the age of 37, in his hotel room while on vacation with his wife and son in Brazil.
THUNDER was a co-production that saw Gruvpix’s involvement from pre-production through to final delivery, ensuring a seamless execution of this gripping 3-part true crime series. THUNDER went on to win the AMPIA Award for Best Documentary Series, a testament to the collaborative efforts and attention to detail that Gruvpix brought to the project.
Jelena
JELENA is the incredible story of one of the boxing world’s best kept secrets – Jelena Mrdjenovich. As an 8-time world champion and current WBC and WBA titleholder in the featherweight division, Jelena has a target on her back as she prepares for her 48th pro fight against undefeated European Champion Gaelle Amand.
JELENA is a powerful and compelling original story brought to life by Gruvpix. From the initial concept development through pre-production, production, and post-production, Gruvpix managed every step of the process with meticulous attention to detail and a creative vision that set the project apart. This dedication to quality storytelling and filmmaking was recognized when JELENA won the AMPIA (Alberta Media Production Industries Association) Award for Best Documentary.
Bisping
After a tumultuous decade-long career filled with injuries and missed opportunities, 38-year-old UFC middleweight Michael Bisping finally got his due, and he plans to go out swinging.
Gruvpix was in charge of the post-production for Bisping, ensuring a polished and impactful final product. Bisping garnered widespread recognition, winning multiple awards, including Best Documentary at both the AMPIAS and Leo Awards (Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Foundation of British Columbia). Gruvpix’s editing work also earned the Leo Award for Best Editing in a Feature Documentary, a testament to their technical and creative expertise. After its purchase by Universal Studios, Bisping went on to achieve international success, reaching audiences around the globe.
Making Coco: The Grant Fuhr Story
Barely 19, Grant ‘Coco’ Fuhr became starting goalie for the most exciting team in NHL history. He was suspended for an entire NHL season for conduct deemed “dishonourable and against the welfare of the league” for cocaine use, only to return and redeem himself as one of the game’s true greats. Grant Fuhr was the first black superstar in hockey. He won 403 regular season NHL games and is a member of the 2003 class of the Hockey Hall of Fame. Making Coco is the story of Fuhr’s life, on and off the ice.
Gruvpix played a pivotal role in the post-production and editing of Making Coco, contributing not only to its technical refinement but also to its creative direction. The documentary went on to receive numerous award nominations and made history with the largest Theatrical Documentary premiere in Canada, captivating an audience of over 3,000 people at Rogers Place.
The Bailey Experience
Donovan Bailey was often misunderstood because of his confidence and maligned because of his bravado. The world was about to realize that none of this mattered to Bailey, he was on a mission to flip the world of track and field on its head.
Gruvpix played a crucial role in the post-production of The Bailey Experience, a project for TSN that required a swift turnaround. As the premiere episode of TSN’s Engraved on a Nation series, which celebrates Canadian heroes, The Bailey Experience garnered the highest ratings of the entire series. The success of the series was further recognized with a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Biography or Arts Documentary Program or Series.
Only Up
Only Up is a documentary that follows women in different roles in one of the most male dominated industries, Aviation. Follow Kendra Kincaid as she explores the industry and speaks to leaders and workers about why Women in Aviation are so few.
Gruvpix oversaw both the production and post-production of this ambitious documentary, which required extensive travel and remote filming across various locations. The documentary’s global reach is reflected in its translation into multiple languages, allowing it to resonate with audiences worldwide. It has found significant international success, particularly as an educational tool aimed at inspiring and encouraging women to pursue careers in aviation.
Against the Ropes
Against the Ropes is a Series that follows Edmonton’s Panther Boxing Gym as they navigate the ups and downs of competing in Amateur Boxing.
Against the Ropes is a Gruvpix original production and ran for 2 seasons. From development through production and post-prodcution Gruvpix oversaw every aspect of the project. Against the Ropes won the AMPIA Award for Best Documentary Series.
Bonehunters
Bone Hunters follows the small community of Palaeontologists as they navigate treacherous terrain in Northern Alberta, on the small chance they might make the next big prehistoric discovery.
